  • Yes. Our prescribing clinicians are trained and licensed to treat mental health and substance use disorders with medications. Treatment is personalized and based on your symptoms and medical history. Our aim is to provide effective treatment utilizing evidence-based prescribing and dosing guidelines. This allows us to minimize your risk of side effects and worsening of your symptoms.

    All prescribed medications, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements have risks. It is important that you discuss these risks with your prescriber whenever you begin a new medication or adjust your dose.

  • Participating in therapy can have a number of benefits. Therapy is most effective when it is individualized, humanistic, and collaborative. Effective therapy also depends on a building a trusting relationship with your therapist and a willingness to apply what you have learned to your life. Clinicians trained to provide therapy can offer support, suggest different ways of thinking, provide a fresh perspective, and challenge you to enhance your coping strategies and problem-solving skills. Many people find therapy helpful for issues such as depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship issues, grief, stress management, personal growth, body image issues, and trauma.

    Some of the benefits of therapy include:

    • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, including your goals and values;

    • Developing new skills for improving your interpersonal relationships;

    • Learning new ways to manage emotions including stress, anxiety, anger, grief, and depression;

    • Boosting self-esteem, confidence, and body image;

    • Improving personal communications and listening skills;

    • Changing unhelpful or destructive behaviors and replacing with healthier ones.

  • At this time, we are only offering telehealth services. As our practice grows, we hope to be able to offer in-person services in the future.

  • We are committed to protecting your privacy and confidentiality. In fact, there are many federal, state, and professional guidelines that outline what is considered “Protected Health Information” or “PHI”, including the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Chapter 42 CFR Part 2 (Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records). In the course of treatment, we may ask you for written authorization to share your health information, such as asking for permission to speak with your primary care provider to coordinate treatment. There are limited circumstances when your personal health information can and must be shared including:

    1. When there is a risk of serious and imminent harm to yourself and/or other people;

    2. When there is concern for neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and/or financial abuse of minor children, vulnerable adults, or elders;

    3. When a court or administrative order demands it;

    4. When a situation is considered a medical emergency and sharing PHI is necessary to provide safe and appropriate treatment.

  • At this time, Gray Matter Behavioral Health providers are only considered “in-network” with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. If you have any other type of health insurance, we offer a self-pay option. We also can provide you a “Super Bill” at the end of each month so that you can submit it to your insurance company to request reimbursement.

  • The cost of your appointment is based on many variables including the length of your visit, the level of medical complexity, and the type of service being rendered. We strive to provide transparency about the cost of our services and our billing practices. Our costs are designed to be reasonable for the service provided based on a market analysis of comparable group practices and insurance reimbursements. We encourage you to contact your insurance company to understand your benefits. For any questions about your bill or payments, you should contact our billing department directly.

    Your account balance must be paid in full prior to your appointment. At this time, we do not offer a sliding scale.

  • It is your responsibility to notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If we are not notified with at least 24 hours notice, a cancellation fee equal to the cost of your session will be applied to your account. Keep in mind, this is a cost that insurance will not cover and you will be responsible for the balance due before your next scheduled appointment.
